DESCRIPTION:Canceled – Bonnie Wenk Volunteer Workday\nDue to recent heavy rain\, many parts of Bonnie Wenk are flooded & this volunteer event has been canceled. Read about the importance of staying off of muddy trails. \n\nWhere: Bonnie Wenk Park\, 2996 Virginia Pkwy\, McKinney\, TX 75071 \nLook for our tent for sign-in! \nWhen: Saturday\, June 1st\, 2024\, 8 AM – 10 AM \nWhat we will be doing: Celebrate McKinney’s amazing trail system at Bonnie Wenk! For National Trail Appreciation Day\, spruce up McKinney’s nationally recognized trail – Wilson Creek Trail. This workday will overlap with the celebration at the Park.  Tools available will include weed whackers\, backpack blowers\, loppers\, shovels\, grabbers\, etc. To use power tools\, you’ll have to complete MPF Safety Orientation. Click here to view the regulations. \nWhat to bring: Print the volunteer waiver and bring it with you. Participants under age 18 need to have a guardian or parent sign the form. You will also need to have your own work gloves. Bring bug spray\, sunscreen\, and water. Protective eyewear is recommended if you plan to be cutting branches or operating some of the cutting tools. If you bring your own tools\, please have them marked as such so we know they are yours. \nWhat do I wear: Long pants\, long sleeves\, face covering\, and closed toed shoes or boots. Sunscreen and bug spray are recommended.  Please dress appropriately for the weather. Please do not wear leggings\, shorts\, or other thin material which is not protective on your body. \nWhere to Park: We’ll be working on the southeast side of the Park. We recommend parking near the pond\, in the lot closest to Virginia Parkway. Map below. \n \nPlease arrive at least 10 minutes early for waiver sign-in and team assignments. \nVolunteers can earn service hours for their school group\, troop\, or club. DESCRIPTION:Towne Lake Nature Trail Workday \nWhen: Saturday\, June 15th\, 2024\, 8 AM – 11 AM \nWhere: Towne Lake Nature Trail\, 2001 S Central Expy\, McKinney\, TX 75070\, The trail is to the East of the McKinney Recreation Center’s parking lot. Parking and restrooms are available at the Recreation Center at Towne Lake. \nLook for our tent for sign in! \nWhat we will be doing: Using trimmers to clear the trail of overgrowth\, track pickup\, clean the picnic areas\, remove fallen debris on the trail. Tools available will include weed whackers\, backpack blowers\, loppers\, shovels\, etc. This park experiences graffiti often\, if you’re interested in helping clean graffiti\, please bring tools like a bucket\, water\, cleaning gloves\, soap\, rags\, scrubbing brushes / graffiti cleaning kit. \nWhat to bring: Print the volunteer waiver and bring it with you. Participants under age 18 need to have a guardian or parent sign the form. You will also need to have your own work gloves. Bring bug spray\, sunscreen\, and water. Protective eyewear is recommended if you plan to be cutting branches or operating some of the cutting tools. DESCRIPTION:McKinney Green Gardens Workday \nWhen: Saturday\, June 22nd\, 2024\, 8 AM – 11 AM \nWhere: McKinney Green Gardens at Gabe Nesbitt Park\, 3339 Alma Rd\, McKinney\, TX 75070\, between the water tower and Hillsdale Drive. \nParking is available adjacent to the Garden and overflow parking & restrooms are available at The Courts McKinney Pickleball and Tennis Center (next to the Garden) \nSign in will take place in the Garden’s center pavilion. \nWhat we will be doing: This Garden is in need of attention in the form of weed pulling\, trenching\, tilling\, and spreading mulch. The Gardens purpose\, once back in shape\, is to educate the community on native and drought tolerant plants. We are excited to partner with the City of McKinney’s Parks and Recreation Department and Office of Environmental Sustainability to bring this Garden to life. \nWhat to bring: Print the volunteer waiver and bring it with you. Participants under age 18 need to have a guardian or parent sign the form. You will also need to have your own work gloves.  Bring bug spray\, sunscreen\, and water. Protective eyewear is recommended if you plan to be cutting branches or operating some of the cutting tools. Wheelbarrows are recommended to bring to help spread mulch.
