DESCRIPTION:Please join us  at the McKinney Greens Park to perform tree care. \nParking is available on Stewart Road on the right in front of the entrance. The Stewart Rd. entrance can be accessed by turning off of Highway 5 (north of 121\, south of El Dorado). \nNO PUBLIC RESTROOMS are on site\, please use the QT gas station on HWY 5. Poison Ivy is present in the park\, so please dress with long pants and sleeves. \nWhat will we be doing: Tree care by checking on the trees planted during the November event. Trees may need to be pushed upright\, tall grass areas trimmed\, etc. \nPlease arrive about 10 minutes early for a safety orientation\, waiver sign in\, and team assignments. Link to waiver: here \nWhat to bring: Long pants\, long sleeve shirt\, insect repellent\, work gloves\, and water. DESCRIPTION:8:00 AM to 11:00 AM – Print the volunteer waiver and bring it with you. Participants under age 18 need to have a guardian or parent sign the form. \nPlease arrive 10 minutes before the start time to sign a waiver and meet the group. Individuals needing to earn service hours can have their records signed by a board member at the conclusion of the event. \nWhat we will be doing: Using trimmers to clear the trail of overgrowth\, track pickup\, clean the picnic areas\, remove fallen debris on the trail. Tools available will include weed whacker\, backpack blower\, loppers\, etc. \n\nWhat do I wear: Long pants\, long sleeves\, face covering\, and closed toed shoes or boots.  You will also need to have your own work gloves.  All tools will be provided by the McKinney Parks Foundation. Bring bug spray\, sunscreen\, and water. Protective eyewear is recommended if you plan to be cutting branches or operating some of the cutting tools. \nThe trail is to the East of the McKinney Community Center parking lot at 2001 S Central Expy\, McKinney\, TX 75070. Parking is available at the Community Center. Restrooms are available at the Community Center. \nThe McKinney Parks Foundation provides trail maintenance in this area for the enjoyment of the community. \n\nRSVP Below.

DESCRIPTION:What:  McKinney Parks Foundation 2022 Kick Off Meeting \nWhere:  1244 Gray Branch Rd\, McKinney\, TX 75071 \nWhen:  Thursday\, January 13th from 6:00PM to 8:00PM (come and go) \n  \nWhat’s this about:  This is the McKinney Parks Foundation (MPF) Annual Kick Off event.  Come find out about where the MPF is going to be focusing resources\, grant funding\, and volunteer efforts at Towne Lake\, McKinney Greens\, Erwin Park\, and the newest park addition for the City\, and Gray Branch. \n  \nCome find out about the Board of Directors and openings: \n\nVolunteer efforts on trail work days\, trail team leads.\nVideographer and photographers to document the progress.\nGrant coordinator.\nGenerate ideas and narratives for scout projects when we receive inquiries.\n\n  \nThere will be food and beverages provided in an come and go atmosphere to meet and greet the current MPF leadership and learn how you can get involved more effectively in the Parks you already love right here in McKinney\, \n  \nAbout the McKinney Parks Foundation:  The McKinney Parks Foundation has been in existence since 2017 with three main functions: \n\nOrganizing volunteers to help with projects in conjunction with the McKinney Parks and Recreation Department;\nEncourage engagement by residents in park activities and programs;\nProvide a structure for organizing educational opportunities about the natural environment.\n\n  \nThe MPF coordinates teams of volunteers to work on projects in the parks such as maintenance of hike and bike trails\, building nature trails\, upkeep of parks and open spaces\, and adding amenities. The MPF partners with other local organizations (e.g. Master Naturalists\, Crepe Myrtle Trail\, DORBA) to provide education to school children and other McKinney residents and visitors that are interested in learning about nature and the ecology of North Texas. The current MPF Board of Directors is composed of McKinney residents who have served on the Parks Advisory Board\, a Master Naturalist\, a licensed professional engineer\, and others who have a keen interest in community involvement and enhancing the quality of life in McKinney. \nTo date the MPF has been awarded over $80\,000 in grants\, and has put in close to 4\,000 volunteer hours since 2017.

SUMMARY:Wilson Creek Trail Volunteer Day 12/11/21\, 8 - 11 AM
DESCRIPTION:8:00 AM to 11:00 AM – Print the volunteer waiver and bring it with you. Participants under age 18 need to have a guardian or parent sign the form. \nPlease arrive 10 minutes before the start time to sign a waiver and meet the group. Individuals needing to earn service hours can have their records signed by a board member at the conclusion of the event. \n\nWhat do I wear: Long pants\, long sleeves\, face covering\, and closed toed shoes or boots.  You will also need to have your own work gloves.  All tools will be provided by the McKinney Parks Foundation. Bring bug spray\, sunscreen\, and water. Protective eyewear is recommended if you plan to be cutting branches or operating some of the cutting tools. \nThe trail is to the East of the McKinney Community Center parking lot at 2001 S Central Expy\, McKinney\, TX 75070. Parking is available at the Community Center. Restrooms are available at the Community Center. \nThe McKinney Parks Foundation provides trail maintenance in this area for the enjoyment of the community. \n\nRSVP Below.

There are a few trees which need to be planted. We will be adding the stakes to the larger trees\, and add root guard cages to the base of the tree. \nYour help is needed this Saturday. Wear closed-toe shoes\, bring work gloves and water. Tools will be provided\, but you can bring your own shovel if you have one. We will start at 8 AM\, any help you can provide is appreciated. \nPark along Stewart Road\, do not park in the neighborhood. The area we will be working can be accessed by following the sidewalks into the property.

DESCRIPTION:Sign up is online through mckinneytexas.org/wctrees \nRestore the Canopy! The Wilson Creek Tree Planting Event is a riparian restoration partnership project. Help plant trees to protect water quality and restore Wilson Creek to its natural beauty. Volunteers are needed. Please sign up to help plant trees by Friday\, Oct. 22. Children 12 years and older may volunteer with an adult. If this event is rained out the event will occur on Saturday\, Nov. 13. \nRSVPs and the waiver through the City’s site is required. If you have a scout troop or group where minors are participating with a chaperone and the parent won’t be present\, contact ellenlataie@gmail.com to inquire about the waiver process. The guardian must sign the waiver for each child. \n \nEvent Day Information for Wilson Creek Tree Planting Event \nNovember 6th\, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM \nParking: Collin County Appraisal District parking lot\n250 Eldorado Pkwy\, McKinney\, TX 75069 \nShuttle: There will be a shuttle running every 15 minutes to/from the parking lot. Do not park in the adjacent neighborhoods or along the street. The shuttle will make two stops. The first stop along the southern edge of McKinney Greens on Stewart Road is for those participants who signed up for the Seedlings. If you are an adult participating with children\, this is where you will exit. The second stop is on the north end along Wilson Creek Parkway. This is the stop for those participants who signed up for the 3–5-gallon trees or 15-gallon trees. The shuttle will pick you up when you leave the event and take you back to the parking lot. \nArrival: After existing the shuttle\, check in at the tents. You will then be directed to move to the area where you will be volunteering. All participants are required to have completed the waiver. Children who are volunteering must have had their waiver signed by a parent or guardian. \nWhat to Bring: Work gloves\, closed-toe shoes\, and enthusiasm! The site does not have a secure location for you to store your personal belongings. Please only bring what you can carry on your person. The first 200 volunteers to arrive will receive a complimentary reusable water bottle. Limited snacks will be available. \nSafety First: This event involves heave equipment\, tools\, and the natural passive park space is home to animals and poison ivy. Stay in the areas where you are performing the work and be alert of your surroundings. Do not use earbuds and children must be always supervised by their parent/guardian/chaperone. Those who demonstrate irresponsibility with equipment or disregard safety instructions will be asked to leave the event. If you are unfamiliar with how to operate a tool\, choose a task that you are more comfortable with performing.
